FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country and region will produce a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts and may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher and can show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter taste & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, usually people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter & has a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often cultivated at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has more bean yield & is better resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also influences a significant part in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Blending different types and roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roast process to make different tastes in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of beans. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional aspects that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans typcially keep more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the various areas are be more distinct in light roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when purchasing coffee.
