FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each nation and area will result in a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts and can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & can exhibit grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may exhibit a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can have superior taste and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, usually people would rather have Arabica because it is not as bitter and shows a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans because it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has greater fruit yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting process also plays a major part in the flavour profile of the coffee. Combining different varieties & roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roast process to craft different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional factors that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee will retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the different areas can often be more distinct in light roasted beans. This is important to consider when purchasing coffee.
