FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each country & location will produce a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours and can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher and can display grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior flavour & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, usually people prefer to consume Arabica as it is less bitter and exhibits a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has greater bean yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast proceedure also plays a major role in the flavour characteristics of the coffee beans. Mixing different varieties & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust all aspects of the roast proceedure to craft different flavours in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other things that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee usually retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the beans from the various locations can often be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is important to consider when buying coffee.
