FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each nation & region will produce a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can display a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show superior flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, most people would rather have Arabica because it is less bitter & exhibits a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has more bean yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major part in the flavour profile of the coffee. Mixing different varieties and roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control & adjust all aspects of the roast proceedure to craft different flavours in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other aspects that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee typcially retain more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the different regions are be more distinct in light roasted beans. This is key to think about when purchasing coffee beans.
