FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each nation & region will result in a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can display a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior taste & are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, usually people would rather consume Arabica as it is not as bitter & has a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has more fruit yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast proceedure also plays a major part in the taste profile of the coffee. Mixing different types and roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency between batches of beans. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional factors that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee typcially retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the coffee from the various regions are be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is important to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
