FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each nation and area will result in a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours and can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and can exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may display a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter flavour and are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, commonly people would rather consume Arabica because it is less bitter & shows a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has greater bean yield & is more resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also influences a significant role in the taste characteristics of the beans. Mixing different varieties and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and change every aspect of the roasting proceedure to craft different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional aspects that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee will retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the coffee from the different regions are be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when buying coffee.
