FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each nation and location will produce a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher and may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show nicerbetter taste & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, commonly people prefer to consume Arabica because it is less bitter & shows a better taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has more bean yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a significant role in the flavour profile of the coffee. Blending different varieties and roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust all aspects of the roast proceedure to craft different flavours in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other things that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast beans will keep more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the beans from the different locations are be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee.
