FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each nation & region will make a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can show a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter taste & are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, commonly people would rather drink Arabica as it is less bitter & exhibits a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has a higher bean yield and is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a significant part in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Mixing different types & roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control and change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different tastes in their coffee and ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional conditions that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee usually keep more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the distinct tastes of the beans from the various regions can often be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee.
