FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each country and area will produce a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours and may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher and may display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior flavour & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, most people prefer to consume Arabica because it is less bitter and has a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has a higher bean yield & is more resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast process also influences a major role in the flavour profile of the coffee. Blending different types and roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change all aspects of the roast proceedure to craft different tastes in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other aspects that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans will retain more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the marked flavours of the beans from the various locations are be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when buying beans.
