FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each country & region will produce a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & can exhibit grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can have nicerbetter flavour & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, many people prefer to consume Arabica as it is not as bitter & exhibits a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has a higher bean yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also plays a significant part in the flavour profile of the beans. Combining different types and roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to craft different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency between batches of coffee. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other things that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast beans usually retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the various regions can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when buying coffee.
